IDG World Expo predicts that 30,000 national and international Linux users will attend the fourth LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Jose, California, surpassing the last show’s record attendance.
The event, set for August 14-17, 2000, is billed as the largest Linux-focused gathering in the world. Attendees will have the opportunity to consult with participants who have successfully implemented Linux OS in their businesses, and get answers to their critical Linux questions.
The event will feature a number of educational and networking activities, including several half-day tutorials and more than 50 conference sessions. Over 150 companies will demonstrate their newest products, services and solutions on the exhibition floor.
Michael Dell, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Dell Computer Corporation, will deliver the opening keynote address, and Ransom Love, President and CEO of Caldera Systems, and Joel Birnbaum, Chief Scientist of Hewlett-Packard will deliver later keynote speeches.
Show Highlights
Patricia Sabga, co-anchor of The New Economy Watch — called “The N.E.W. Show” — on CNNfn, will host an Executive Roundtable featuring top officials from major Linux companies discussing key issues in the industry.
Other event highlights include the .org pavilion — where attendees can meet with over twenty .org members who have contributed to the development of the Linux platform — and the “History of Linux Showcase,” which will display a timeline of Linux history and development along with memorabilia from the Linux community.
The “Show Favorites” awards program will recognize outstanding Linux products and services selected by a panel of leading industry experts.
IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award
Once again, LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will honor an association, organization, or individual who has shown exceptional dedication to the open source movement with the “IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award.” The winner will receive a $25,000 prize.
Past honorees include the Stampede Linux Foundation, Jay Sulzberger, the Free Software Foundation, and XFree86, Inc.
New for 2000
This year’s event will introduce the first annual LinuxWorld Conference & Expo “Geek Bowl,” with distinguished open source personalities squaring off in a test of wits for the coveted Golden Penguin award.
